DEEP IN THE WEST FJORDS OF ICELAND is the name of a exhibition by Thorvaldur Kristmundsson, held in Perspektivet Museum in Tromsö, Norway.  The installation shows a glimpse of life in the western part of Iceland. A vanishing farming community that has been inhabited since the first settlers thousand years ago. The exhibition is open from 28. May to late September 2011.

Coming up in Los Angeles from 18th. September to 1st December the exhibition NATURE IS BRAND in THE KONA GALLERY and PHOTOJOURNALIST CENTER. Big Wednesday Gallery presents The Charlies, an Icelandic POP/Dance trio performing at Thorvaldur Örn Kristmundsson exhibition the opening night.

In the spring of 2009 START ART gallery held a performance art installation to commemorate the washerwomen in Reykjavik, Iceland. A part of Reykjavik Arts Festival in 2009. Documentation of this extensive performance installation is recorded in the book “Laugavegur”. The book is lavishly illustrated with photographs of the performance and artworks contributed by contemporary Icelandic artists, as well as pictures of older times from the Washing Springs. Among artists, Thorvaldur Örn Kristmundsson shows his results in images from the art installation that are published in the book “Laugavegur”. To see more pictures click on STORIES

NATURE IS BRAND is the name of a exhibition by Thorvaldur Kristmundsson, held in Gerdarsafn Art Museum in Kopavogur, Iceland. The installation of 20 images show the combination of a man made item in Icelandic nature, cultural combination. The exhibition is open from 06. march to 02. may 2010.

This is the first preview of a project called “The Deep Fjord”. After more than five years of photo documentary in the west of Iceland, this project is soon coming to an end. This is the story of the inhabitants, the farmers and there surroundings, who live in a remote part of Iceland. After hundreds of years this community is soon coming to an end. 2011 project end.
