DEEP IN THE WEST FJORDS OF ICELAND is the name of a exhibition by Thorvaldur Kristmundsson, held in Perspektivet Museum in Tromsö, Norway. The installation shows a glimpse of life in the western part of Iceland. A vanishing farming community that has been inhabited since the first settlers thousand years ago. The exhibition is open from 28. May to late September 2011.

The Washerwomens Walk
In the spring of 2009 START ART gallery held a performance art installation to commemorate the washerwomen in Reykjavik, Iceland. A part of Reykjavik Arts Festival in 2009. Documentation of this extensive performance installation is recorded in the book “Laugavegur”. The book is lavishly illustrated with photographs of the performance and artworks contributed by contemporary Icelandic artists, as well as pictures of older times from the Washing Springs. Among artists, Thorvaldur Örn Kristmundsson shows his results in images from the art installation that are published in the book “Laugavegur”.

NATURE IS BRAND is the name of a exhibition by Thorvaldur Kristmundsson, held in Gerdarsafn Art Museum in Kopavogur, Iceland. The installation of 20 images show the combination of a man made item in Icelandic nature, cultural combination. The exhibition is open from 06. march to 02. may 2010.

After years of Milosevic destroying much of Bosnia and part of Croatia, killing hundreds of thousands of people, and responsible for escalating human rights abuses in Kosovo, NATO finally determined to move ahead and launched a attack on Milosevic forces on the 24th. of march 1999. Over a half million refugees had been forced out of Kosovo.

The project ” NATURE IS BRAND ” shows the world´s most famous brand put in nature´s perspective. A man made symbol of industrialization is put in location´s in southern part of Iceland. This exhibition installing features 21 images. Project finished 2010 – Gerdarsafn Art Museum Iceland from 06. march to 02. may 2010. Now showing in The KONA gallery, San Clemente California from 18th. September 2010 – 31.march 2011.

This is the first preview of a project called “The Deep Fjord”. After more than five years of photo documentary in the west of Iceland, this project is soon coming to an end. This is the story of the inhabitants, the farmers and there surroundings, who live in a remote part of Iceland. After hundreds of years this community is soon coming to an end. 2011 project end. PEOPLE IN THE NORTH
The north east part of the country has a road that leads to a long and straight forward path to the most northern part of Iceland. The sea that surrounds this peninsula is an unforgiving neighbour, and have shaped the lives of the people living a long the coast of Melrakkasletta. At the end is a small town called Raufarhöfn. Its remote charm is both quiet and calm, what used to be one of the major shipping harbors in the country is now the host for few boats. A haven for birds and other living creatures. Thorvaldur Örn Kristmundsson has been a photographer for two decades and started as a press photographer. For many years Thorvaldur was Chairman for Icelandic Press photographers Association and also The Chairman for the Nordic Press photographers community. Covering major news events in Iceland and also in many parts of the world, his focus today is mainly photo documentary and exploring the photographic medium as an art form. Born 1970 in Reykjavik Iceland, Thorvaldur has worked and made stories for various agencies and magazines all over the world. After dozens of exhibitions, the focus is today mainly on several projects including a book on a life in remote places, still life exhibitions and, " No Human Concept " that will take place in Iceland. Finishing in 2011, "Deep Iceland-West Fjords" Project, Pyramides in Landscape and Kept from Time. A serie of exhibitions from "Deep Iceland-West fjords", starts this summer in Perspektivet Museum, Norway.
"Not only have I traveled to countries suffering war, followed major sport events, met kings and queens, world leaders and musicians, but also realised that it takes no more than the story of a simple life of one person to make it greater than the everyday headlines of world events.”
